Open Question: I want to go to university overseas and don't know how to apply.?

I live in Sydney, Australia but i would love to go to university overseas. I get how there are different systems around the world but I want to know how to apply for oversease school (preferably the uk of america). i know that there are extra tests you have to do but i am unclear of exactly what it is you have to do. I am a year 10 student so I still have time to do some stuff.
